Car Dummy to Car Snob: My Transformation into a Car Person
When I started at Pure Pursuit Automotive, I was by no means a car person. I was more interested in getting to and from somewhere rather than enjoying the ride. I would pass by cars and not really notice the difference between one car and the next. Growing up with two brothers, two step-brothers, and a slew of other family members who have a genuine passion for cars, I was forced to go to many a car show. I was always more interested in finding the “pretty” cars than the cars actually worth looking at. I found myself easily bored at car shows rather than enjoying the sights. After interning here for the last seven months, all that has totally changed. I find myself gawking out the window at nice cars and enjoying my ride much more. I haven’t been to a car show yet, but now that I know what cars are worth looking at, I can tell you that I would definitely enjoy it much more.
My New Respect for the Sport-Lux Car
In the time I have been here, I have really started to gain a new respect for cars, especially the sport-lux cars we sell here at Pure Pursuit Automotive. A year ago, I couldn’t tell much difference between the Mazda logo and the Mercedes-Benz logo. Now, if I see a Mercedes-Benz, I’m always checking to see if it has the AMG badge on it. Walking in every day to see the multiple Mercedes we have on our sales floor is like walking into heaven on earth. You can’t tell me that you wouldn’t drool a little bit if you were welcomed by a 2009 SL63 AMG, a 2012 C63 AMG, a 2012 CL65 AMG, and the almighty 2012 CLS63 AMG. Like I’m pretty sure this is what heaven looks like.
My Newfound Abilities
Before this internship, I couldn’t tell you the difference between the AMG and the 4-MATIC Mercedes-Benz. I only thought Porsche had one model (I was very, very, VERY wrong. You can blame the movie Cars for that.). Now I can tell you the differences between AMG and 4-MATIC, and you’ll even find me being a little biased toward the AMG. How could you not be? They are beautiful cars. And not to brag, but my Porsche identification skills are on point. I can point out a Panamera, Cayenne, and Carrera just by the way they look. And when I point them out, I am always checking for the “S” or “Turbo” after the model name. Blame it on the “car snob” in me that comes out now because I’ve been working around these sport-lux models for awhile now. I’ve currently got the back end of a 2013 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 staring me down as I write this. Don’t be jealous.
My New Love for Cars
Like I said, before I started here, I really couldn’t care less about cars. Now I find myself drooling over pictures people post on Twitter and Facebook, and I’ve even caught myself staring at some of the cars on our floor for longer than I should be. I had a massive crush on our blue BMW M6 convertible we had when I first started here. I’m not going to lie; I was a little sad to see that car go. When I found myself attached to this car, I knew I was being converted to a car person, slowly but surely. When we got the blue Maserati Gran Turismo, I was at home on Christmas break from school and wanted nothing more to be back at work just so I could see the beauty that was the Gran Turismo. As we keep getting more and more cars in our inventory, I find myself getting more and more excited to see the cars every time I come to work. I admit it. I have become a car person. I never thought I would say that. I still couldn’t tell you about the smaller details of the car, like what the individual horsepower of each car is. But I can tell you that I have come a long way since I started here.
